Research technician for collaborative project in the Versteeg & Karagöz labs

The Versteeg and Karagöz labs at the Max Perutz Labs at the University of Vienna are looking for a shared full-time research technician. The position is available immediately.

About the labs:

The overarching goal of our research is to mechanistically understand how mammals degrade immune-related proteins at the correct time during the resolution phase after infection. We use mammalian cell culture model systems and biochemical reconstitution to elucidate the guiding principles of proteasome-dependent protein degradation.

About the position:

The successful applicant will actively contribute to research projects with experimental work and data analysis in a highly collaborative environment. Tasks will include culturing and transduction of primary and immortalized cells, RT-qPCR, cloning, transfection, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, protein purification, and in vitro biochemical reactions. Additionally, you will work closely with other lab members to support different research projects.

Candidate profile:

Comprehensive theoretical and practical training in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, nucleic acid purification, PCR, Western Blotting, mammalian cell culture, and protein purification/biochemistry. Experience in flow cytometry and microscopy is desirable, but not essential. In addition, successful candidates are highly pro-active, communicative, and team players. We are looking for a team member with the willingness to learn and develop new techniques and skills.

Application:

If you share our passion for investigating the mechanisms that guide correct protein degradation, and are a highly organized and detail-oriented worker with a team-oriented attitude, then we invite you to submit your application. Please include in your application:

  • Your motivation letter.
  • Your CV with detailed descriptions of work experience, and experience with molecular biology and cell biology techniques. Please include contact details of at least two references.

Please submit your application package to: gijs.versteeg@univie.ac.at. The interviews will be held on a rolling basis; as soon as a suitable candidate is found, the position will be filled. The monthly salary will be in accordance with FWF guidelines.
