The ÖAW elected Alwin Köhler as corresponding member and Georg Winter into its Young Academy

Congratulations to Alwin Köhler (Max Perutz Labs) and Georg Winter (CeMM), who have been elected as members to the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW): Alwin Köhler as a corresponding member, and Georg Winter as new member to the Young Academy.

The ÖAW is Austria’s largest non-university research and science institution. Its mission is to ‘promote science in every way’. Founded in 1847 as a learned society, today the ÖAW has over 760 members and 1,800 employees dedicated to innovative basic research, interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge, and the dissemination of new insights with the aim of contributing to progress in science and society as a whole. Every year, the ÖAW elects new members from all research disciplines for their outstanding contributions to science.

 

Alwin Köhler, previously member of the Young Academy of the ÖAW, has now been elected as corresponding member. He is the Scientific Director of the Max Perutz Labs, Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, and member of our Special Resesarch Program. Georg Winter, group leader at the CeMM and member of our Special Research Program, has been voted into the Young Academy of the ÖAW. The Young Academy is committed to creating work and research conditions that make career paths possible at a very high international level.
